In keeping with the design concept used for CaixaBank`s flagship branches, Francesc Rifé Estudio took advantage of the singular features of this emblematic Zaragoza building and transformed it into an open space with easy access for staff, customers and visitors alike.
The 1929 building, also considered to be an item of architectural heritage, was built as the head offices of the former bank Banco Zaragozano. Designed by Roberto García Ochoa, it features a slender tower that rises up above its ten floors, crowned by a decorated dome.
The project for Caixa Bank entailed the refurbishment of the first two floors, using the central lobby as a focal point, topped by the elegant classical dome evocative of its historical origins.
An innovative approach was taken to the bank’s offices, with no limits to how these areas can be partitioned off or left open. The ground floor contains a spacious area devoted to the bank’s social initiatives, plus a lobby for the bank’s customers. On the top floor are the meeting rooms and offices used to provide more customized attention.
The materials that were used are typical of the architects’ studio’s preferred materials and looks, with a unified use of colour, background and form.
