PASEO ALDREY

“Paseo Aldrey – Cultural & Shopping Centre” is a major project to transform a former bus station in the city of Mar de Plata (Argentina) into a cultural and leisure centre while also restoring and placing new value on this item of heritage.
Architects’ studio Mariani-Pérez Maraviglia was responsible for the redevelopment of this 42,000m2 area for the city’s inhabitants.
With this project, headed by architect Laura Napp, a whole new facelift was given to the area through the construction of a new linear-looking building that integrates the old bus station’s classical architecture (designed by architect Jules Dormal in around 1910) into its big volumes.
This redeveloped area of the city also features two public squares to link the different leisure and cultural facilities, which include cinemas, spacious facilities for exhibitions and events, and over 100 shops.
The huge XLIGHT  ventilated façade that was used for the complex is conceived to ensure energy savings of around 30% compared with other conventional claddings, while also making optimum use of natural light, with big stretches of glass strategically designed to face in certain directions.
The 7000m2 ventilated façade features XLIGHT  slimline porcelain sheets, held in place with a visible clip system by Butech, PORCELANOSA Grupo’s specialist in building solutions, leading to the creation of an air cavity that insulates the inner wall.
Aesthetically, a uniform surface was created by using the monochrome XLight Basic range of slimline porcelain sheets in a nature finish and 100x300cm format, choosing the XLIGHT BASIC Sand and XLIGHT  BASIC Dark models. These large-format sheets, with a slimline thickness of just 3.5mm, are perfect for creating eye-catching façades with a high resistance and high capacity for insulation.
In building terms, one additional advantage of  XLIGHT ceramic sheets in big ventilated façade projects is their low weight of just 8 kg/m2, making them easier to load and unload, transport and handle when installed.
This superb complex is an ambitious redevelopment initiative aimed at uniting past and present through the creation of an area designed to boost the city’s entrepreneurial activities and to contribute to its progress.
