In a place like Lyon, declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO due to its outstanding architectural ensemble, it is vital to conserve the city’s historical buildings and adapt them to meet today’s needs while also striving to boost their value and integrate them into the background setting.
Located on the banks of the River Saône, ESPACE Air + is designed to act as a multifunctional venue in this cosmopolitan city for professional events like presentations, seminars, conferences or cocktail parties, with the guarantee of a unique backdrop.
This refurbishment project by architects’ studio Chabanne + Partners, took advantage of an existing stone building with wooden beams, integrating it into the modern-looking new facilities.
Covering a total of over 400 m2, ESPACE Air + is divided into different areas for different types of get-togethers. Taking maximum advantage of the light, its luminous interiors can be used for events ranging from presentations and meetings to cocktail parties, in this last case in its spacious dining room. Its second floor houses a conference room and private meeting rooms suitable for exhibitions of all kinds.
To give it a select distinguished feel, textures were conserved from the original building and combined with a careful selection of new materials, aimed at contributing to its air of sober elegance. The end result is a functional building, where the choice of flooring plays a particularly important role since it helps to unify the different rooms.
Chabanne + Partners decided to opt for CICLIK from the STUC collection by URBATEK –PORCELANOSA Grupo. These 119x119cm large-format porcelain tiles, made of recycled raw materials, combine outstanding technical properties with a timeless design able to suit all the building’s different rooms, thanks to the choice of modular formats and different finishes.
These innovative facilities are rounded off with an exclusive basement winery with a more industrial look. To ensure a sense of intimacy, the vaulted ceiling was conserved, combined with new furniture and a new entrance stairway, all made of metal, plus plank-shaped flooring from the ON Timber collection, whose coloured cement-effect surface bears marks evocative of wood.
An innovative venue for professional get-togethers.
